Is your Will outdated? 11 questions you need to ask yourself

Safeguard your Assets & Loved Ones with a Will-Review Checkup in 2024

It is vitally important to make a Will and equally as important to ensure you regularly review your plans to ensure that your Will is up to date. It may be some years since you wrote your Wills, but there are now many changes you need to consider. I have listed a few below:

Please check carefully to ensure you’re up to date

  • Is the Will signed? (Yes, I had a case where they made Wills, but they were unsigned and so were not legally valid!)
  • Have you married, divorced, or remarried since you wrote your Will?
  • Have you had children or more children?
  • Have you revised your Will to ensure your beneficiaries can claim maximum Nil Rate Band and Residence Nil Rate Band if applicable?
  • Have you protected against threats such as divorce, debt, and care home fees?
  • Have you started a business or retired from one?
  • Has the value of your estate increased since you made your Will?
  • Have you received, or due to receive, any inheritances or gifts?
  • Have any of your executors, trustees or beneficiaries died?

In addition to these questions ask yourself:

  • Have I got Lasting Powers of attorney in place for my health and my finances should I be ill or lose capacity before I die?
  • Have I put a business enduring power of attorney in place so that the business can continue?

If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, then please do get in touch on 07831 379562 or email [email protected]. Then we can see if you need to make amendments and how I can help you.

Don’t let your wishes go unmet. Make sure your Will is updated for peace of mind.
